CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4 Enters Pre-Production Phase: Development Update for 2024

It is reported that CD Projekt is currently developing the highly anticipated game The Witcher 4, which has already entered the pre-production stage. The active development phase is scheduled for the second half of 2024.

CD Projekt released its report for the year 2023, which became the second most successful in its history. In the report, the Polish company disclosed the status of development for each of its games. As of February 29, 2024, a colossal 403 (64%) developers are focused on The Witcher 4. It is also noted that the new game about The Witcher has transitioned to the pre-production stage. According to the plan, the project will move into the active development phase in the second half of 2024.

The Witcher series, based on the novels and short stories by Andrzej Sapkowski, has become one of the most popular game series from CD Projekt RED. At its core is the story of the monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia. Since the release of the first game in 2007, three main standalone games about The Witcher have been released, along with two expansion packs and seven additional games. The last major game in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was released in 2015 and remains popular to this day. In November 2023, the Polish video game developer CD Projekt Red announced that the majority of its employees would be involved in working on the new Witcher game.

The next installment of the famous game series was first announced in March 2022 under the codename Polaris. It is being developed by CD Projekt’s in-house team on the Unreal Engine 5. This game, as forecasted, is expected to kick off a new trilogy of Witcher games.
